Homework , or a homework assignment , is a set of tasks assigned to students by their teachers to be completed outside the class. Common homework assignments may include required reading , a writing or typing project, mathematical exercises to be completed, information to be reviewed before a test , or other skills to be practiced. It is often thought that Roberto Nevilis of Venice, Italy invented homework in as a punishment for his students. Upon further inspection, however, this seems to be more of an internet myth than a fact due to the lack of historic evidence. Instead, it is believed that Horace Mann , an American 19th-century politician and educational reformer , invented the modern concept of homework and made it an educational essential in schools.
Homework is a phenomenon which has endured the test of time in almost all calibres of educations. From an early age, students going to first grade to even university students, everybody is assigned homework by their academic institute. Has anybody even considered the reasons why there should be no homework other than the students? Is it actually helpful to the learning process? Is it conducive to administer homework to improve your concentration for younger students or older scholars? If it is not helpful why is it still being administered?
We have all had time-consuming, monotonous, meaningless homework assigned to us at some point in our life. These assignments often lead to frustration and boredom and students learn virtually nothing from them. Teachers and schools must reevaluate how and why they assign homework to their students.
