In: English and Literature. Fowler Sept. Introduction Faith and wisdom are key elements that are needed as a Christian. The practice of faith is the idea of putting your trust in the Lord, instead of relying on oneself. It is another way that we as Christians humble ourselves before God by this commitment and giving Him the power and authority over our lives. We can grow in faith by seeking wisdom in His Word.
Like Plato discussed, the cave prisoners were bound to their own version of reality because they had never experienced the outside world. So, when the former prisoner returns and explains his experience, the others mock him and are stubborn in their own beliefs because they have not perceived reality the same way. When the prisoner first experiences the outside world he becomes overwhelmed from his new perception, and he has to take it in…. When he returns the men that were still in the cave did not believe what he had to say and in the apology people were getting annoyed by what Socrates had to say they could not take in this idea of a good life so then they charged him with corrupting the youth and impiety. This is a result of when it was time to let go of the illusion and face reality. This quote is so genuine because his whole concept of philosophy is truly explained with these few words.
These men lack an extremely important trait that Socrates demonstrates by speaking these lines. Humility is nowhere to be found in the characteristics of these great advisors who are putting Socrates on trial. This is a very important lesson to me for a number of reasons, including the simple lesson of being humble and knowing that the high and mighty people in this world may not actually be as prestigious as we make them out to be. I view humility as an essential trait for success and a happy life.
Wisdom is one of the highest forms of human characteristics. Through wisdom, virtues can be brought to life. The beauty of wisdom is that it is not dependent on the theories that are written in books, or the curriculum in the schools and colleges.
