ASASAN, a sub-regional network for Andean Region (Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru) and Paraguay, was formed by ActionAid (Ayuda en Accion) in 2007. The network originated from the Allied Institutions Network Against Hunger in Bolivia in 2003. It was formed to promote the effective implementation of the Human Right to adequate food in Peru, Bolivia Colombia, Ecuador and Paraguay; and to build regional and global networks in defence of food sovereignty. The network brings together CSOs, NGOs and social networks to exchange experiences and enable learning. The network facilitates joint monitoring and evaluation exercises of law, sovereignty, security and food self-sufficiency in each country. The network influences public policy at national and regional level and participates in other scenarios such as the Andean sub-regional integration. AIPE in Bolivia hosts the secretariat to ASASAN. On behalf of IFSN, ASASAN FSN-related activities are coordinated by Ayuda en Acción (AeA). Based in Madrid, Spain, the organisation focuses on promoting structural changes that contribute to the eradication of poverty.
